Only If I had not got the letter. If had not held that letter in my hand. If I had not felt that rough texture, as a sand Paper, of the letter. If I had not seen the messy and shaky writing in the letter, as if every alphabet is dancing on a rhythm. If I had not read the words, so explicit of the infatuation. If I had not seen his statuesque attitude. Only If I had not lost the bet. I would have not known him, my husband.
I met him by chance. But looking back, It seems Destiny. The warm summer day just when I lost the bet to my friend and was contemplating my loss, completing her homework, while she was out partying, I saw him at the door. His strong arms like they could lift any burden of life. The bright eyes had love and compassion. The broad shoulder made me wonder what was beneath that t-shirt which was perfectly fitting on him. I never knew I was loosing bet for this, I would love to loose bet again and again. All these thoughts came so quick that I forgot, I dint know him. I was just looking and I saw his hand waving, when I realized, he was asking for my friend. I pulled myself together and took the letter which was for my friend. I should have not read it, but I read every word of it. I read it again and imagined my name in the letter.
This was a start, start to something that I knew will last life long. And, yes, It happened. The thing which started by delivering that letter with some one’s else’s name in it, but ended with the vows with my name in them. I’m happy, I lost the bet that day. I’m happy, he came to deliver the letter that day, so what it was not for me. It does’t matter any more.

“The Three Laws of Robotics:
1: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;
2: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law;
3: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law;
The Zeroth Law: A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.”
― Isaac Asimov,
There was a streak of happiness in the house. Sweets were being distributed, prayers were being chanted. Little feet of chirayu came to their house and filled the house with joy and pleasure. The hands soft as cotton, skin untouched like a new piece of silk dress and innocent eyes trying to peep into everything, I saw happiness on everyone’s face. But there they were, not only happy but a sense of relief in their eyes. A relief that expressed granting of one last wish, relief of achieving a much awaited goal, relief of winning a long war.
I first thought, they were relieved because child birth is a miracle and having a child is the greatest gift of all. But that was not it. They had 4 children, Chirayu was their 5th child. They were happy not because a child was born, but because, Boy child was born. Even today, a family desires boy child. In emerging countries like India, having a girl child is a burden on the family. Today, when women are leading some great nations, great companies, women are in equal competition in science, technology, and every other field, still there are places where a girl child is nothing more than an obligation and an added responsibility.
A recent Study in UK showed that the family with 2 girl children is an ideal combination for family harmony. The top 3 combinations were found to be —
1. Two girls
2. One boy and one girl
3. Two boys
The study supports having a girl child still there are people who are Relieved when they have a boy child. The mentality can not change over night. Education is a very strong tool. Girls should be given education so that when they grow up they can stand for themselves. Education has helped but the work is not over yet. I do not agree with reservations for women, but yes reservation for women in backwards class is still necessary. It gives an incentive for parents to not prefer boy child over girl child. Every girl should be made aware of her inner abilities. She needs to be taught if she can give birth to a new life, there is nothing she can’t achieve, no mountain she can’t climb and no ocean she can’t go across. Together we can progress and prosper.
Homo Sapiens have unique ability to feel emotions. It is why we socialize. We experience all sorts of emotions everyday. We also have unique ability to express emotions. But Do we us this ability of expression? Do we always say what we feel? Do we not want our partner to guess what we are feeling sometimes? Why do we keep our sentiments Bottled up.
Life would be much simpler if we express ourselves vividly. We could solve half of our problems by clear communication. We also need to be ready to hear conversation. Communication is a two way process. If used effectively communication can be a great tool.
We have to open up ourselves to our partner, to our friends, to our parents, to our colleagues. There should be no room for contemplation. Take some time in your relationship to talk. Talk about your likings – dis-likings, your plans, your problems, your happiness, your sorrows, and every teeny tiny talk to long talks. And make our place an easier place to live in.
Road trips always have a story. And a Puncture in your car on a road trip, is always fun. Yes! every one has experienced it, at least in my country! It gives birth to stories, sweet, salty or even spicy stories.
I remember one of my road trips, which was an amazing time spent, every thing was done with in set time. We had planned exact time for each activity since we had to return on a specific time, failing to reach on time, had its own consequences.
Oblivious to what was coming, our trip was going as smooth as silk. Suddenly, our car stopped, we had the back tyre of our punctured. A tiny – tiny puncture in the tyre, and our whole plan was upside down. After that, all of us had to deal with their situations in unique way. Every one had to knit their own story to wardens, parents, teachers etc. Some of us even had to become a fake parent for other, in front of principal.
Looking back today, I remember the day, the places we went, the food we ate, the infinite number of pictures we took etc etc. But the most hilarious moments we had were after the puncture. we still cherish those moments and try to live them. Had it not for the puncture, we would have missed that fun and the thrill. It made the trip exciting. I’m sure you must had a story too. So whats your story!!!
